Fabrics chosen for skin

The fabrics that suit this category are soft, breathable and stable in the wash: combed cotton single jersey, cotton-modal for drape and a cool touch, cotton-elastane for recovery in underwear, rib knits for fitted lounge pieces and waffle knits for sleepwear with texture. Weight runs lighter than outerwear, and the finish matters: a bio-washed or silicone-finished jersey feels soft from the first wear. On a 150-piece run the fabric comes from our sister factory’s stock in these families, in the neutral and muted shades the category sells in.

Elastics, trims and the seams next to skin

Underwear is built around its elastic: a plush-back waistband elastic that sits soft against the skin, leg elastics that hold without marking, and binding at edges. Loungewear uses flat drawcords and soft ribs. Seams are kept flat and light, and labels are heat-transferred or placed where they cannot rub. Trims have their own minimums, so a first run uses our sister factory’s stock elastics and bindings; a branded jacquard waistband comes when a style justifies its minimum.

Sets that match

A lounge set or a sleep set is two styles cut from the same stock fabric and shade, sampled together so the shades match, with a minimum of 150 pieces per colour for each. Underwear is often sold in packs of a single style in several colours; each colour is its own 150 pieces, so a first pack is planned around the stock shades our sister factory holds.

Labelling and claims for skin-contact garments

Skin-contact garments carry the fibre content, care and origin required in your market, and several markets test them for restricted substances at stricter limits than outerwear. A fibre claim such as organic cotton needs a transaction certificate for the fabric in the order. Organic cotton is available on request: ask for the factory’s GOTS licence number and check it in the GOTS public database before you order. Ask for the transaction certificate before the label is printed.

Samples, approval and delivery

A fit sample, worn, then a pre-production sample in the bulk fabric with the elastics, trims and labels in place, approved and sealed.

Sizes, packs and sets on a 150-piece run

The 150 pieces are counted per style and per colour, and every size of that colour counts towards them, so the size system is the first decision in this category. A bralette sized in letters, XS to XL, splits 150 pieces five ways, about 30 per size. A bra sized by band and cup splits them far more thinly: four band sizes and four cup sizes make 16 sizes, about 9 pieces each, and a factory may ask for a minimum per size. That is why letter-sized bralettes suit a first run in this category better than band-and-cup sizing.

Multipacks multiply the count. A three-pack of briefs in three colours needs 150 pieces of each colour, so 450 garments make 150 packs; the same three-pack in one colour needs 150 garments and makes 50 packs. The pack assortment, which colours and which size go into each pack, is written into the tech pack before cutting, because the folding, carding and assortment into packs are done at the factory.

A lounge or sleep set is two styles, so one set in one colour is 150 tops and 150 bottoms. Sold as a fixed set, top and bottom share one size and one size ratio. Sold as separates, a customer can buy a medium top and a large bottom, so the two ratios can differ. Decide which before the size split is agreed.

Stretch pieces are measured twice. Waists, leg openings and bralette underbands are written on the size chart both relaxed and stretched, and the sample is checked both ways, because a relaxed measurement alone says little about how a stretch edge sits on the body.
