Where clothing is made in Bangladesh
Almost every export garment in the country comes out of four districts. Which one your order belongs in changes your lead time, your minimum quantity and how likely you are to catch your sailing.
Four districts, one industry
Bangladesh’s export garment industry is geographically concentrated to a degree that surprises most buyers. When Mapped in Bangladesh published its mapping of the sector in March 2022, listing 3,723 factories, it found the majority sitting in just four districts: Dhaka, Gazipur, Narayanganj and Chattogram, with the remainder spread across seventeen others. The database lists 3,320 factories today.
That concentration is useful to you, because it means the question “where should this be made” has a small number of real answers. Each district does something different, and the differences are practical rather than cultural: what machinery is there, what size of order the factories want, and how far the finished goods have to travel to reach the ship.

The thing buyers underestimate: the road
More than 90% of Bangladesh’s seaborne trade leaves through Chattogram port, which handled 3,402,762 containers in 2025. Goods sewn around Dhaka therefore face roughly 250 km of road before shipping begins, on a corridor carrying an entire country’s exports.
In our experience that inland leg, not the sewing line, is where schedules are most often lost. It is why we plan transport as a stage with its own buffer, and why for schedule-critical programmes we will quote a Chattogram option next to a Dhaka-belt one so you can see the risk difference and not just the price.
How we choose for your order
We start from your product and your quantity, not from a factory we want to fill. The machinery has to suit the garment: flat-knitting for sweaters, a wash plant for denim, seam sealing for technical outerwear. The factory has to hold the audits your market requires. And it has to actually want an order of your size, because a run placed in a factory too large for it gets the attention left over from the big ones.
Then we name the factory to you in writing, with its address, before anything is cut. If you want to see it, we build the visit around the traffic rather than the map. Beyond these four districts, production is slowly spreading to areas such as Mymensingh, and where a factory there is the right answer we will say so.

What each one makes, how it is structured, and what it means for your order.
Clothing manufacturers in Dhaka
Dhaka is where a garment order is managed rather than where most of it is sewn. Head offices, buying houses, sample rooms and the trims market sit in the city; the volume production around it is in the Savar and Ashulia belt, including Dhaka EPZ. The international airport makes it the fastest place for samples.
Garment factories in Gazipur
Gazipur, north of Dhaka, is the country’s densest garment manufacturing belt, and home to many of its large composite knit mills, where knitting, dyeing, cutting and sewing happen on one site. Composite production shortens lead times and reduces the number of handoffs where quality is lost.
Clothing manufacturers in Narayanganj
Narayanganj, just south-east of Dhaka, is one of the country’s oldest textile districts and today a dense cluster of knitwear, hosiery and washing units, plus Adamjee EPZ. Its mid-size factories are often the right home for orders too small for the big Gazipur mills.
Garment factories in Chattogram
Chattogram is the country’s main port and its second garment hub. More than 90% of Bangladesh’s seaborne trade moves through it, and it handled 3,402,762 TEUs in 2025. Producing here removes the roughly 250 km inland journey from Dhaka, which is the stage of the schedule most likely to slip.
