Duty: what you pay on clothing from Bangladesh

Bangladesh is in the UK Developing Countries Trading Scheme, which gives tariff-free access to 99.8% of goods Bangladesh exports to the UK, clothing included. Your customs broker claims the preference at import, so keep the origin documents your supplier provides with every shipment.

Bangladesh is scheduled to graduate from the UN Least Developed Country category on 24 November 2026. The UK has said existing access continues unchanged for three years after graduation. Bangladesh then moves to the DCTS Enhanced Preferences tier, where knitted and woven garments (chapters 61 and 62) keep duty-free access, and the rules of origin allow apparel made with imported fabric to qualify.

Labelling your garments for the UK

Textiles sold in Great Britain must show their fibre composition using the approved fibre names, under the Textile Products (Labelling and Fibre Names) Regulations 2012. Percentages must be accurate, so we check the label copy against the fabric test report before bulk labels are printed.

Care symbols are not a legal requirement in the UK, but retailers and marketplaces expect them. We print care labels to the standard your buyer or platform asks for.

Product safety

Clothing sold in the UK must be safe under general product safety law. For childrenswear, buyers usually ask for drawstring and cord safety to BS EN 14682 and for nightwear flammability testing. Restricted chemicals, such as certain azo dyes, are controlled under UK REACH, which is why many UK buyers ask for OEKO-TEX STANDARD 100 or a restricted substances test report.
