Garment dyeing and washing in Bangladesh
Dyeing or washing a finished garment changes how it looks, feels and fits. It is the difference between a flat, new-looking tee and one with depth and softness, and it is essential to denim. It also introduces the two variables that cause most quality disputes: shrinkage and shade.

Dyeing after making, not before
In garment dyeing, the product is sewn in undyed fabric and dyed as a finished piece. That gives a distinctive depth of colour and softness, and it lets a brand hold undyed stock and colour it closer to the season. The cost is control: the whole garment, including ribs and threads, reacts to the dye, and different components can take colour differently, which is used deliberately for contrast effects but has to be planned.
Controlling shrinkage
Every wet process shrinks fabric, and the amount depends on fibre, knit or weave structure and the process itself. Control starts before cutting: fabric and rib are wash-tested in the actual process, shrinkage is measured in length and width, and the pattern is compensated so the garment lands inside your size chart after processing.
A pre-production sample then goes through the full process and is measured against the size chart before bulk cutting is approved.

Shade consistency
Batches of garment-dyed product vary, which is normal and is why the process looks natural. It becomes a problem only when unmanaged. We compare every batch against an approved sealed standard under controlled lighting, group garments into shade bands, and pack each band together so a customer receives a consistent set. The band is recorded on the carton, so a reorder or a replacement can be matched later.
Denim finishing and the environment
Denim washing has changed considerably: laser marking replaces much hand sanding, ozone reduces water and chemical use, and modern plants recycle a substantial share of process water. Ask what recipe achieves the look you want and what it costs in water and chemistry, because the same appearance can often be reached by a lower-impact route. Restricted substances lists from your retailer apply to wash chemistry as well as to dyes.

Garment dyeing and washing: common questions.
Why do garment-dyed pieces vary in shade?
Because the colour is applied to finished garments in batches, and every batch is a slightly different combination of dye liquor, temperature, time and load. That variation is part of the look: it is what gives garment-dyed product its depth compared with flat piece-dyed fabric. The way it is managed is by control rather than elimination. We approve a sealed shade standard with you, compare every batch against it under standard lighting, and sort garments into shade bands so that pieces packed together match. The band reference goes on the carton, which matters for reorders and replacements. If your programme cannot tolerate visible variation, for example a corporate uniform where garments are bought individually over years, garment dyeing is the wrong process and we will recommend piece-dyed fabric instead.
How much will a washed garment shrink?
It depends on the fibre, the fabric structure and the process, so the honest answer is that we measure it rather than estimate it. Cotton-rich fleece shrinks more than a cotton-polyester blend; a heavily enzyme-washed garment moves more than a rinse wash; and length and width shrink at different rates. Before cutting, we wash-test the actual fabric and rib in the actual process, measure the shrinkage, and adjust the pattern so the finished garment lands inside your size chart after processing. Then a pre-production sample goes through the whole process and is measured against the chart before bulk cutting is approved, and production garments are measured batch by batch. What you should not accept from any supplier is a size chart quoted before washing with the shrinkage left as your problem.
