In short

As of 23 September 2026, clothing made in Bangladesh enters the EU, the UK and Canada duty-free when it meets each market’s origin rule, while the US charges normal duty plus a 10% Section 301 tariff. Many ranking pages still cite reciprocal tariffs that have ended, a suspended de minimis exemption, the wrong UK tier and inflated export figures.

Clothing made in Bangladesh enters the EU, the UK and Canada duty-free when it meets each market’s origin rule. It does not enter the US duty-free: as of 23 September 2026 it pays normal US duty plus a 10% Section 301 tariff. Those basics are often wrong on pages that rank for sourcing searches, partly because the rules changed several times in 2025 and 2026. Below are 24 claims still repeated on sourcing sites, each paraphrased and set against what the primary source says.

Each correction comes from the body that makes or publishes the rule: the Federal Register, GOV.UK, the European Commission, EUR-Lex, the UN, the Government of Canada, the Export Promotion Bureau and Bangladesh’s Minimum Wage Board. Treat this page as a map, not legal advice, and confirm your own shipment with your customs broker before you price or ship.

How these claims were checked

We ran the searches buyers use, such as import duty on clothing from Bangladesh, how to import clothes from Bangladesh and Bangladesh garment industry statistics, and read the pages that appear near the top of both US and UK search results. We kept claims that are wrong, out of date or missing a condition that changes the answer. We do not name those pages: the point is the rule, not who got it wrong.

Every row gives the claim in our own words, what the source says, and the source, listed in full at the end of this page. All were checked on 23 September 2026. Trade rules are moving quickly this year, so the date matters as much as the fact.

United States: tariff claims

US duty on Bangladeshi clothing changed twice in 2026: in February the reciprocal tariffs ended, and in July a new Section 301 tariff began. Pages written in between, or never updated, still quote the old layer. Our guide to US tariffs on clothing from Bangladesh works through the current duty by product and the IEEPA refunds. The normal duty rate for each product code is in our guide to HS codes for clothing, and the wider picture for American brands is on our US market page.

Garments made with US cotton already enter free of the 10%.USTR will set tariff-rate quotas for Bangladesh once it judges them feasible, by a further notice; until then the 10% applies to the apparel concerned. United States: samples and small parcels

Low-value shipments used to be the easy way to bring in samples and direct-to-consumer orders without paying duty. That route is closed, and the rules behind it are often misdescribed. The steps for a normal entry are in our guide on how to import clothes from Bangladesh.

United Kingdom: DCTS tier, proof of origin and marking

The UK runs its own scheme, the Developing Countries Trading Scheme (DCTS), with its own tiers and paperwork. Common errors borrow EU paperwork, put Bangladesh in the wrong tier or add product marks that clothing does not need. Our guide to proof of origin for clothing compares the documents for each market, and our guide to UK import duty on clothing by country compares the rates for Bangladesh and the other main suppliers.

European Union: EBA, graduation and origin

Most EU errors treat Bangladesh’s graduation date as the day Everything But Arms (EBA) ends. The graduation date itself is also less settled than many pages suggest. The timeline for each market is in our guide to LDC graduation and duty-free apparel.

Bangladesh’s LDC graduation on 24 November 2026 is fixed. That is the scheduled date. Canada: which programme, and until when

Canada’s rules are easy to misread because the programmes and a country’s place in them have different end dates. The Department of Finance sets out both, and the apparel origin rule, on one page.

Industry numbers: exports, markets and products

The official series comes from the Export Promotion Bureau and is compiled by BGMEA on a fiscal-year basis; FY2025-26 is the latest full year. A common error is to report total goods exports as garment exports. The dated headline figures for the whole industry are in our Bangladesh garment industry statistics fact sheet. More detail by product and market is in our garment export statistics guide.

Wages

Wage figures online mix old rates, proposals and loose currency conversions. The Minimum Wage Board publishes the rates in force for each sector it covers, including garments. What the wage means for workers and for your costs is in our guide to garment worker wages in Bangladesh.

How to check a sourcing claim yourself

Most of the errors above share a few causes, and each has a quick test.

  • Look for a date. A duty rate without the entry date it applies to is not usable in 2026. If a page cannot tell you when a rate started, assume it may have ended.
  • Find the legal text. US tariff actions are published in the Federal Register, UK preferences on GOV.UK, EU rules on EUR-Lex and the Commission’s trade pages. A claim that cannot be traced to one of them is a hypothesis.
  • Keep the schemes apart. EBA is the EU’s scheme, the DCTS is the UK’s and the LDCT is Canada’s. Each has its own origin rule and its own proof, so paperwork for one market does not carry over to another.
  • Read statistics carefully. Check whether a figure is garments or all goods, knit or woven, a single country or the EU as a bloc, and which fiscal year it covers.
  • Price from your own codes. Rates differ by commodity code and fibre, so look up each style in the tariff of the country you import into, then ask your customs broker to confirm before you set a retail price.

What to do next

If you are pricing a range for the US, the UK, the EU or Canada, start from the rules above and your own commodity codes, then add freight and fees in our landed cost calculator. CMB Sourcing Ltd. is a buying house in Narayanganj, Dhaka. We do not own sewing lines: orders are made in audited partner factories, and we name the factory in writing before production, with its address, certificates and audit reports. We check quality on the line, run an AQL final inspection, prepare export documents and certificates of origin, and ship FOB, CIF or DDP from Chattogram sea port or Dhaka airport. See shipping and logistics for how that works.

Our own orders start at 500 pieces per style and colour; t-shirts start at 1,000, and denim, jackets, woven shirts, workwear and uniforms at 2,000. Send a quote request with your styles, quantities and destination market, and a founder will reply within one working day.

Questions buyers ask.

Is clothing from Bangladesh duty-free?

It depends on where you import it. As of 23 September 2026, the EU gives Bangladesh duty-free, quota-free access under Everything But Arms, and the European Commission says this continues for three years after graduation, at least until the end of 2029. The UK places Bangladesh in the Comprehensive Preferences tier of its Developing Countries Trading Scheme, with 0% on 99.8% of products and a three-year transition after graduation. Canada’s Least Developed Country Tariff is duty-free on almost all imports, and Canada intends to keep it for three years after a country graduates. In each case the garment must meet that market’s origin rule, and the importer must hold the right proof. The United States is the exception: Bangladeshi clothing pays the normal duty for its tariff code plus a 10% Section 301 tariff on entries from 24 July 2026. Ask your customs broker to confirm the rate for each commodity code before you set a retail price.

Do clothes from Bangladesh pay US tariffs in 2026?

Yes. Each entry pays the normal duty for its HTS code, and since 12:01 a.m. eastern time on 24 July 2026 goods of Bangladesh also pay a 10% Section 301 tariff under heading 9903.05.26. The reciprocal tariffs that many pages still quote were ended by Executive Order 14389 of 20 February 2026, so they have no place in a landed cost for goods entered now. USTR has said it will create tariff-rate quotas that let a volume of garments made with US cotton or other US textile inputs enter free of the 10%, but only once it judges this feasible and announces it in a further notice, so do not price on that yet. Small parcels no longer avoid duty either: de minimis has been suspended for all countries since 29 August 2025, and a law passed in July 2025 ends it from 1 July 2027. Confirm each style’s rate with your customs broker.

Do UK imports under the DCTS need a REX number?

No REX registration appears in HMRC’s guidance for claiming the DCTS. It lists two accepted proofs of origin: an origin declaration on an invoice, packing list or consignment note, or a Form A. The Form A needs no stamp or signature from a Bangladeshi authority, and a copy is accepted. Both are valid for two years from issue. On the import declaration, your broker enters document code 9001 for an origin declaration or N865 for a Form A, with a preference code from the 200 series. Bangladesh sits in the Comprehensive tier, not Enhanced, so almost every line is at 0%. When it leaves LDC status, it moves to Enhanced Preferences (0% on 92% of lines) after a three-year transition, but only if it passes the economic vulnerability test, currently export diversification; otherwise it moves to Standard Preferences. Check each commodity code in the UK Trade Tariff and confirm the claim with your customs broker before the goods arrive.
