Labels in Czech

Garments sold in the Czech Republic carry their fibre composition in Czech, with the approved fibre names and accurate percentages, because EU labelling law sets the language by the country where the product is sold.

Brands selling across central Europe often build a multilingual label covering Czech alongside German, Polish and Slovak, which keeps one label working across neighbouring markets. Packaging: the take-back obligation

Czech packaging producer responsibility is governed by Act No. 477/2001 Coll., on Packaging. It places take-back and recovery obligations on anyone who places packaging on the market or into circulation, which explicitly includes those who import packaging into the Czech Republic, as well as those who fill or sell it.

Most businesses meet the obligation through collective compliance with EKO-KOM, the authorised packaging company, rather than organising take-back themselves. For a clothing importer the packaging is polybags, hang tags, tissue, mailing bags and cartons. One useful detail from EKO-KOM: the Packaging Act does not require you to mark packaging with its material, but if you choose to, the marking must follow EU rules.

What packaging obligations apply when I import clothing into the Czech Republic?

Can one label cover the Czech Republic and its neighbours?

The trade-off is physical: more languages mean a longer label or a booklet-style care label, which affects comfort, cost and artwork.
